Celebrating Growth: How Student Incentives Are Making an Impact Across Avenue Schools

At Fuse Project, we believe hard work deserves to be recognized. Through our ABC Academic Support Program, student incentive initiatives across our Avenue partner schools are designed to encourage attendance, celebrate achievement, recognize growth, and help create school environments where students feel seen, supported, and motivated to succeed.

Throughout the Spring 2026 semester, Fuse Project partnered with Florence Howard Elementary School, Calloway-Smith Middle School, and Pathway K-5 to host quarterly celebrations and incentive programs recognizing students for everything from academic growth and Honor Roll achievement to attendance, behavior goals, and personal improvement.

While each school’s celebration looked a little different, they all shared the same purpose: reminding students that their effort matters and that showing up, working hard, and continuing to improve are accomplishments worth celebrating.

At Pathway K-5, the semester kicked off with a celebration full of pizza, music, dancing, and encouragement for students who achieved perfect attendance, reached behavioral goals, or showed growth in i-Ready reading and math during the second quarter. Students received certificates and enjoyed an afternoon focused entirely on recognizing their progress and perseverance.

Pathway serves students who benefit from additional behavioral and academic support as they work toward transitioning back into traditional classroom environments, making celebrations like these especially meaningful. By recognizing growth, not just perfect grades, students are reminded that progress matters and improvement is something to be proud of.

At Calloway-Smith Middle School, Fuse Project hosted multiple celebrations throughout the semester honoring students for their hard work and dedication. In February, students who earned A/B Honor Roll and achieved perfect attendance during the second quarter were recognized with a special pizza party celebrating their commitment and consistency, and also received $10 gift cards as an additional reward for their achievement and dedication.

Later in the spring, students gathered again for another achievement celebration where 17 Honor Roll students and 26 students with perfect attendance were recognized with a nacho bar and $10 Walmart gift cards. The atmosphere at these events was energetic, affirming, and joyful as students celebrated one another’s accomplishments and experienced firsthand that their hard work had not gone unnoticed.

At Florence Howard Elementary School, Fuse Project’s School Store continued to be one of the most exciting and impactful components of our Student Incentive Program. Throughout the year, students are recognized for academic proficiency, growth, attendance, and other achievements, earning the opportunity to “shop” for prizes stocked by Fuse Project. This spring, the School Store received a major boost thanks to a generous holiday toy drive hosted by Ashland Place Preschool, which donated an incredible collection of toys, games, sports equipment, craft kits, and other prizes for students. Their generosity helped ensure the School Store was well stocked for the Spring 2026 semester and allowed us to continue celebrating student success in meaningful ways. (Read more about Ashland Place Preschool's toy drive and other community partnerships in our Community Involvement recap.)

Throughout the semester, students had opportunities to redeem their earned rewards for everything from candy and small trinkets to larger toys and gadgets. Earlier this spring, 188 students were recognized through the School Store for reaching top proficiency levels or demonstrating meaningful academic progress. Later in the semester, 131 students celebrated their reading and math growth by cashing in points earned through their hard work and dedication throughout the year.

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the School Store experience has been watching students use their rewards to purchase gifts for siblings, family members, or friends. Time and time again, students excitedly search for prizes not just for themselves, but for someone they care about, a reminder that recognition programs can also help foster kindness, generosity, and pride.

Fuse Project believes incentive programs are about much more than prizes or parties. They help reinforce that students’ efforts are noticed, valued, and appreciated. Recognizing improvement alongside achievement is especially important because growth matters just as much as the final outcome. A student moving from struggling academically to making measurable progress deserves to feel celebrated too.

And the impact is visible. Across Avenue schools, increased attendance, stronger engagement, improved school culture, and measurable academic growth continue to reinforce the importance of these efforts. Both Florence Howard Elementary and Calloway-Smith Middle School recently achieved “B” ratings for the first time on the Alabama State Department of Education Report Card, an accomplishment that reflects the collective effort of students, educators, families, and community partners working together toward student success.

Fuse Project extends sincere gratitude to the school administrators and educators who help organize celebrations, identify students for recognition, and support these efforts throughout the year. We are also grateful to our incredible volunteers and Order of Fuse members, including Cecily Harper, Dr. Tamekia Cunningham, Margaret Carey, and Ruth McKee, whose time and support helped bring these celebrations to life.

Programs like the School Store are only possible through community support, and Fuse Project is always accepting donations of prizes, supplies, or funding to help keep incentives stocked for students. From candy and small toys to larger reward items, every contribution helps create meaningful moments of encouragement for local children.

At Fuse Project, we remain committed to creating school environments where students feel encouraged, celebrated, and motivated to keep growing because every child deserves an opportunity to succeed, regardless of their ZIP code.
