A Clearer Vision for the Future: Introducing Fuse Project's North Star
At Fuse Project, we believe every child deserves an opportunity to succeed, regardless of their ZIP code.
That belief has guided our work for years. It has shaped the partnerships we've built, the programs we've launched, and the investments we've made in children and families across our community.
But as our organization has grown, we recognized the importance of stepping back and asking an important question:
How do we create the greatest possible impact for the children and neighborhoods we serve?
Last December, our board of directors gathered for a strategic retreat to reflect on that very question. We celebrated progress, discussed opportunities on the horizon, toured the site of one of our future housing developments, and explored what the next chapter of Fuse Project could look like.
What emerged from those conversations was a desire for greater clarity—not just about what we do, but why we do it.
To help guide that process, we partnered with Peritus Public Relations and began a months-long strategic planning and messaging initiative. Together, we examined our history, evaluated our impact, identified areas for growth, and developed a framework that would help guide every future decision.
The result is what we now call our North Star.
OUR VISION
Every child deserves an opportunity to succeed, regardless of their ZIP code.
This statement reflects the future we're working toward.
We know that where a child lives often influences access to educational opportunities, enrichment programs, safe housing, and other resources that contribute to long-term success. We believe those opportunities should not be determined by where you are born.
OUR MISSION
Fuse Project sparks opportunity for children by expanding access to education, wellness, and housing.
This mission captures the work we do every day.
It also helps explain something that can sometimes be difficult to communicate: why Fuse works across multiple focus areas.
At first glance, education, wellness, and housing may seem like separate issues. In reality, they are deeply connected.
A child's ability to learn is influenced by their physical and emotional wellbeing. Their wellbeing is influenced by the stability of their home environment. And stable housing, educational success, and healthy communities all reinforce one another.
That's why Fuse is committed to supporting children at every stage of their day:
Inside the classroom. Outside the classroom. At home.
INSIDE THE CLASSROOM: EDUCATION
Education is where opportunity begins.
Through our ABC Program and partnerships with local schools, Fuse helps provide resources, enrichment opportunities, student incentives, mentoring, and academic support that help students succeed both academically and personally.
We've been proud to celebrate meaningful progress alongside our school partners, including Florence Howard Elementary School and Calloway-Smith Middle School both earning "B" ratings on the Alabama Department of Education report card—a reflection of the hard work being done by students, educators, families, and community partners.
OUTSIDE THE CLASSROOM: WELLNESS
Children thrive when their whole wellbeing is supported.
Whether it's learning water safety skills through Avenue Swim Club, exploring creativity through the arts, building confidence through movement programs, or developing healthy habits through cooking and nutrition education, Fuse's wellness initiatives help children grow beyond academics.
These experiences build confidence, foster belonging, and create opportunities that many children might not otherwise have access to.
AT HOME: HOUSING
Housing is one of the newest and most important areas of focus for Fuse Project.
We believe housing is more than shelter—it creates stability, access, and opportunity. As Fuse Project has grown, so has our understanding of what it takes for children and families to thrive. While education remains at the heart of our work, we know that student success is influenced by far more than what happens in the classroom. Safe, stable housing is one of the strongest predictors of long-term educational and economic outcomes, which is why housing has become an important part of our vision for creating opportunity.
Today, Fuse Project is advancing housing initiatives through developments such as Hurtel Crossings and Anchor Place. Together, these projects reflect our commitment to expanding housing options, strengthening neighborhoods, and creating opportunities for families to build stable, successful futures.
Through our holistic approach of investing in education, wellness, and housing, we are addressing the interconnected challenges that impact children and families. When working families have access to quality housing near jobs, schools, and essential resources, children are better positioned to learn, grow, and thrive.

HOW WE WORK
As part of this process, we also identified the values and guiding principles that shape our approach.
Our values are:
Commitment
Community
Creativity
And our Spark Framework guides how we serve:
Show Up
Listen First
Unite Partners
Act With Purpose
These principles remind us that meaningful change doesn't happen alone. It happens when communities, schools, families, businesses, nonprofits, and public partners work together around a shared goal.
LOOKING AHEAD
This work is about much more than new messaging.
It's about creating greater focus, strengthening accountability, and ensuring every decision we make moves us closer to our vision.
Our strategic plan is helping us identify measurable outcomes, strengthen partnerships, refine programs, and build the infrastructure needed to increase our impact in the years ahead.
The mission of Fuse Project has always been rooted in opportunity for children.
Today, we simply have a clearer way of describing where we're headed and how we'll get there.
Because every child deserves an opportunity to succeed, regardless of their ZIP code.
