The Historic Avenue Foundation: Partners in Education

FHES Club Day Sip and See

The Club Sip and See event on May 24 at Florence Howard Elementary School was a resounding success, providing parents and partners in education with an extraordinary opportunity to witness the growth and achievements of their children in various clubs. Throughout the school year, we’ve been “Linking Learning to Life” through Art Club with Round but Square Art Studios and Culinary Club and Gardening Club with The Cookery Project

The art display consisted of over 100 self portraits hanging across the walls of the school. Earlier this year, Round but Square Studios led a two-part art class starting with mirrors and the students learning face structure. They used a variety of art materials including markers, yarn, construction paper, and colored pencils. The Cookery Project hosted two tables for the Culinary Club and Gardening Club. They prepared spinach salad, pimento cheese stuffed peppers, and cucumber dill bites. They also showcased the hydroponic gardening towers that the students helped maintain throughout the year.

Teacher Appreciation Week & End of Year Celebration

As a partner in education to three amazing schools in the Avenue community, Fuse Project has the privilege of witnessing firsthand the dedication and hard work that teachers put into their craft every single day. These teachers go above and beyond to ensure that their students have the tools they need to succeed. During the first week of May, we were able to honor these teachers and express gratitude for their hard work and dedication. At Calloway-Smith Middle School, we hosted breakfast and lunch including breakfast gumbo, Chick-Fil-A biscuits, and McAllister’s Deli sandwiches. At Pathway K-5, we provided a nacho bar from Moe’s BBQ that served over 30 teachers and staff. At FHES, we hosted a “Nacho Average Teacher” luncheon including Taco Mama for over 70 teachers and staff members which included a refreshment station with peach, blue raspberry, and tiger’s blood slushies.

SPARK Summer Camp at Lily Baptist Church

Fuse Project is excited about our first SPARK Summer Camp hosted at Lily Baptist Church. Through this opportunity, we aim to provide a transformative and inclusive learning environment that combines the joy of reading with the excitement of STEAM. We strive to empower children from diverse backgrounds to develop a lifelong love of learning and to cultivate their critical thinking and problem solving skills. By combining evidence based reading intervention strategies with engaging STEAM activities, we aim to create a unique and dynamic experience that inspires creativity, curiosity, and a sense of wonder. We believe that every child has the potential to succeed.

Pathway Partnership Luncheon & Partner in Education Awards

At Fuse Project, we believe in the transformative power of partnerships to shape and empower a student’s educational future. It is with immense joy and gratitude that we share the heartwarming gestures of appreciation from two remarkable local schools, Pathway K-5 and Florence Howard Elementary, who recently expressed their gratitude for our Academic Support program. Their acts of recognition serve as a testament to the positive impact of collaboration and reaffirm our commitment to empowering students to achieve academic success and reach their full potential. We celebrate the heartfelt appreciation received from Pathway K-5 and Florence Howard, highlighting the power of partnerships in education.

Student Incentive Celebrations

Pathway K-5: Fuse Project sponsored a student celebration (nacho party!) for students that achieved growth on their reading and math diagnostic test. We are so proud of these students and thankful to be able to celebrate their accomplishments.

Calloway-Smith Middle School: We had the opportunity to provide hot dogs and nachos to over 300 students at Calloway-Smith Middle School as a learning incentive for finishing their ACAP testing. We had a wonderful time engaging with the students and look forward to expanding our new partnership with the school.

Events and partnerships like these are vital to our mission in the Avenue by allowing us to connect with the residents and build relationships in the community so that we can work hand-in-hand to create transformational change.
